What’s Changing for Revel Merchants in 2026

If you run your business on Revel, you’ve probably been waiting for this announcement since Shift4 acquired the company a couple years back.

The story looks the same for lots of merchants right now:

  • You signed up for Revel POS years ago when it was still processor-agnostic
  • Then you were notified about the Shift4 acquisition
  • You probably took some calls about Revel Advantage processing
  • And eventually sat through a SkyTab demo from your rep

But through all of it, Revel kept running. Everything worked as advertised, and despite the noise, you had no reason to consider changing anything else.

Though it looks like that’s about to change.

Shift4 Has Started Moving Revel Merchants to Shift4 Dine

On its August 2026 earnings call, Shift4’s CEO David Lauber said the company has begun converting Revel merchants over to Shift4 Dine.

What’s interesting about this statement was that it was more of passing remark during a Q&A and not a press release or official policy.

But this was always part of Shift4’s playbook when it initially acquired Revel back in 2024.

At the time, this was Shift4’s newest restaurant POS technology, and Shift4 believed that Revel’s 18,000+ locations represented a $17+ billion payment opportunity. In a shareholder letter that same year, Shift4 said that Revel would “eventually move to SkyTab.”

Some Revel merchants have already pitched SkyTab and taken the bait. And some of you may even remember this well as it wasn’t too long ago.

Well, now you can prepare yourself to hear it all over again, but for Shift4 Dine. The difference here is basically just in the name. Shift4 Dine is the rebranded version of SkyTab.

So the plan has been in place for two years. But now Shift4 seems to be acting on it. Though Shift4 hasn’t officially shared:

  • A timeline for the conversion
  • Which Revel merchants will go first
  • Whether anyone will be required to move (or by when)

Is Revel POS Being Discontinued?

Not right now. Shift4 has not announced an end-of-life date and it still supports Revel.

Unfortunately, there’s a lot of misinformation on the web right now claiming that Revel no longer exists or that Shift4 quit releasing fixes years ago. I’m not going to call them out by name because they’re smaller companies, but if you Google “what happened to Revel POS” many of the first results showing up are filled with these types of misleading statements.

When you look closer at these, the reason is clear. These are POS companies trying to get you to switch from Revel to their system.

And their claims just don’t hold up. Revel is still releasing updates as recently as May 2026.

That ongoing support is what has always set Revel apart in this category.

Shift4 has bought plenty of POS systems over the years, including Future POS, POSitouch, and Restaurant Manager. Once SkyTab launched in 2022, most of those slid into legacy status with little development beyond basic support.

But Revel kept running strong.

That’s why the August 2026 comment on the Shift4 earnings call stands out. As it’s really the first public signal that Revel’s time as a standalone supported product is probably winding down.

Shift4 Dine is SkyTab With a New Name

While I mentioned this earlier, I want to clarify it again. If a Shift4 rep pitched you SkyTab last year, Shift4 Dine is the same product.

SkyTab was rebranded to Shift4 Dine in 2026, and it’s now Shift4’s flagship restaurant POS.

We’ve seen this from Shift4 before. Harbortouch became SkyTab, and now SkyTab has become Shift4 Dine.

And each rebrand has been handled with the intention of getting merchants on one Shift4-owned platform with Shift4’s payment processing built in.

Shift4 Dine may actually be a real upgrade for your business. Or it may not. That’s for you to judge and decide. Just don’t evaluate it based on a new logo.

How a Migration Can Impact Your Credit Card Processing Rates

This is the part of the conversation that matters most for your company’s bottom line. And the answer is different depending on how you’re processing with Revel right now.

Most of you will fall into one of the following three scenarios:

1). You’re Currently Using Revel Advantage: Revel Advantage was introduced after the Shift4 acquisition as a way to keep Revel merchant accounts but migrate them onto Shift4 payment rails. Whether you realized it or not, Shift4 powers Revel Advantage so your rates shouldn’t change if you ultimately migrate to Shift4 Dine.

2). Shift4 is Already Your Processor: Similarly, moving from one POS to another that’s still powered by the same backend processor (Shift4) isn’t an excuse for them to raise your rates. Don’t let that be the justification, and I’d argue that you could actually push for lower rates for the inconvenience of switching platforms. And definitely don’t let them put you on a simple change pricing agreement during the migration

3). You’re Using a Legacy or Third-Party Processor: It’s honestly rare to see merchants still in this bucket, as Revel has slowly been closing support for third-party processing for several years now. Moneris and Braintree are two examples of processors that reached end-of-life support. Though some merchants have managed to continue using a third-party processor via FreedomPay, Worldpay, Chase Payments, Elavon, and Adyen.

If you’re currently using a non-Shift4 payment processor, you’ll be forced to switch if you migrate to Shift4 Dine.

In that scenario, I’d advise against migration.

You’re better off keeping your current processor and switching to a POS system that your processor actually supports.

Your processing rates matter much more than a software subscription. Even a small bump in markup will drastically outweigh any monthly POS fee you incur elsewhere. And you can talk to your processor about potentially waiving any new setup or integration charges to keep your business.

Why There’s Still No Rush to Leave Revel

Until Shift4 officially announces that it’s no longer supporting Revel or that you can no longer use your current processor, there’s no reason to change anything right now.

If Revel is still working fine for your business and your costs are in line, keep using it.

But you should prepare yourself for a change, likely at some point in the foreseeable future. And when that time comes, you’ll have more leverage than you realize.

Even if you’re not being forced out just yet, see if you can negotiate cheaper rates when a rep pitches you on Shift4 Dine.

  • If Shift4 is already your processor, the rate reduction can be your excuse to migrate from Revel to Shift4 Dine.
  • If you’re using another processor, take Shift4’s quote and ask your processor to beat it.

In either scenario, your processor wants to keep your business. The POS is just an excuse to have you on board.
