April is always a busy month for interchange updates. There were also some processor rate increases and several other noteworthy stories.

Here’s my roundup of the payment news you should be paying attention to:

$1.2 Billion Discover Class Action Settlement Deadline is Approaching

If your business accepted Discover cards at any point between 2007 and 2023, the deadline to file a claim in the $1.225 billion class action settlement is May 18, 2026.

It’s right around the corner and approaching faster than most merchants realize.

Just because you got something in the mail saying you’re eligible for the settlement does not mean you’ll automatically receive payment. You likely still need to file. And if you haven’t received anything, you can still file if you accepted Discover during that period.

This stems from Discover misclassifying consumer credit cards as commercial cards for roughly 17 years, causing merchants to overpay on interchange (without realizing it) each time this occurred. Read more about the settlement and how to file here

North (American Bancard) Rate Increase

North is hitting merchants with rate increases in consecutive months this spring, depending on which billing cycle you’re on.

If you’re on a monthly discount plan, your increase already kicked in on April 1st. If you’re on a daily discount plan, yours starts on May 1st. Either way, the amounts are the same:

  • 25 bps increase on tiered pricing
  • 3-15 bps increase on IC+ pricing

Here’s the catch. With interchange-plus, North didn’t send out individualized notices showing the exact increase per merchant. The communication went out to everyone with this broad range, which means you won’t actually know if you’re getting hit with a 3 bps rate hike (more reasonable) or the full 15 bps increase until your statements arrive.

Make sure you review your statements closely to see how much this is impacting your business. More details here

Storable Rate Increase

Storable increased its rates on April 1st:

  • 0.05% per transaction increase for card payments
  • $0.50 increase per ACH transaction

Fullsteam Rate Increase

Fullsteam’s rates increased by 0.10% per transaction effective April 1, 2026.

While the amount may not seem like much, it’s worth noting that this is the fourth consecutive year that we’ve seen rate hikes from Fullsteam.

These annual fee increases add up quickly, and even though they might seem “small” your rates could easily double or triple over a 3-4 year stretch when they’re applied every year.

Interchange Updates for April

April is always one of the months where the most changes at the network level tend to take effect. Here are some of the highlights from this month that you should be aware of:

  • Visa Digital Commerce Service Fee increased and now applies to four additional services (TAVV, VAU/RT-VAU, VDCU, and VCES).
  • Visa Level 2 CEDP interchange incentives officially sunset on April 17th. Verified non-fuel merchants now need to submit Level 3 data to qualify for the reduction.
  • New Visa Card Present Token Fee is now in effect (0.01% domestic, 0.05% international).
  • Visa System Integrity Fee for excessive cross-border authorization retries jumped to 0.25%.
  • Mastercard FPAN Masking is now required on all dispute documentation (if you submit a full card number and you’ll get hit with violation fees).
  • Mastercard reinstated its Fraudulent Processing of Transactions chargeback as a compliance case on April 17.
  • Three new Amex interchange programs went live on April 17: T&E Micro Ticket, T&E Small Ticket, and Other Micro Ticket.
  • New Amex Program Continuation Fee is now in effect for OptBlue merchants, tiered by annual volume (0.03% to 0.20%).
  • New Discover travel interchange rates took effect April 17, covering hotel/car rentals and passenger transportation categories.

Pay close attention to your April and May statements, especially if you’re processing in any of the affected categories.

Canva Designs Supported Embedded PayPal Payments

PayPal and Canva launched a new integration that lets Canva users accept payments directly inside their designs.

Users can embed a payment link or QR code directly into a design, then generate a PayPal-hosted checkout page with their own product details and pricing. Payments can be accepted across social platforms, email, messaging, apps, and in person, plus in currencies supported across roughly 200 markets.

This is aimed at creators and small businesses leaning into social commerce while reducing friction at checkout. Here’s the press release from PayPal with more details.

ACH Payments Surge

The ACH Network kicked off 2026 with strong momentum across the board. Here are some key stats from Nacha’s Q1 report:

  • Total ACH volume up 4.8% YoY
  • Total value up 9.3% YoY
  • Same-day ACH payments up 23.6% YoY
  • Same-day ACH payment value up 22.1% YoY
  • B2B payment volume up 9.4% YoY
  • P2P ACH payment up 18.15% YoY

This growth reflects a broader shift away from checks toward digital alternatives that are much faster (particularly same-day). For businesses, especially processing B2B transactions, ACH transfers continue to be one of the most cost effective ways to move money.

Fiserv Expands Pay-by-Bank Pilot in Grocery Stores

Fiserv and Ahold Delhaize USA are expanding their pay-by-bank pilot, making the option more widely available to customers shopping at grocery stores like:

  • GIANT
  • Giant Food
  • Stop & Shop

Tens of thousands of customers have already enrolled since the pilot launched last year.

The bigger story here is momentum. As major retailers like Walmart, Kroger, and now Ahold Delhaize are pushing pay-by-bank specifically to sidestep interchange fees on every transaction.
