North (American Bancard) Payment Processing Rates – 2025

North (formerly North American Bancard) updates its interchange rates and merchant fees on a regular basis.

To keep our readers informed, our team here at Merchant Cost Consulting keeps a close eye on all interchange updates and publishes new information whenever it’s brought to our attention.

October and November 2025 Rate Increases

Effective October 1st for “monthly discount” merchants and November 1st for “daily discount” merchants, North is increasing discount rates by 0.25% per transaction.

This 25 basis point increase applies to all merchants on a tiered pricing contract.

Merchants on an interchange-plus plan are also getting hit with 0.03% to 0.15% increase to their discount rate.

This is the second year in a row we’ve seen an October/November rate increase from North, for virtually the same amounts.

Businesses using North for payment processing may also notice increases to per item and authorization fees. Though the rate increase notices we received from our clients don’t specify those exact rate changes. So make sure to keep a close eye on your October, November, and December statements to monitor any changes here.

2025 Annual Fee

North is increasing its Annual Regulatory Fee to $199 in 2025 (up from $169 last year).

They claim fee is related to their administrative costs and other procedures related to government and regulatory compliance.

Most merchants can expect to see it on their December statements. However, sometimes North American Bancard adds the regulatory fee to October and November statements. Either way, you shouldn’t see this charged more than once per year.

PCI Fees

North American Bancard is has automatically upgraded some of its merchants to PCI Plus—which includes SAQs guidance, up to three MID scans, dedicated support, and breach forgiveness of up to $100,000.

As of November 2025, PCI compliant merchants are billed $145 annually plus $20 per month (up from $15 in 2024) or $37 per month (up from $27 in 2024).

Non-compliant merchants pay $145 per year plus $70 or $85 per month.

This marks the third consecutive year that we’ve seen an increase to North’s PCI fees, in both the annual fee and the monthly fee.

Increases and Updates For 2024

North American Bancard made three significant changes throughout 2024. Here’s a quick summary of those updates.

Tax Reporting Update

Effective for tax year 2024, merchants being issued a 1099-K will see EPX Acquisition Company (EPX) under the filer’s name section of the tax form instead of North American Bancard.

EPX is the processor that initiates the settlement on the backend, which is why the reporting is changing. This notice was sent to merchants in November and October of 2024.

November Rate Increase

Effective 11/1/2024, North American Bancard increased its rates by 0.25% for “daily discount” merchants and certain merchants on a tiered pricing structure.

This is essentially the exact same rate increase we saw in October that was applied to “monthly discount” merchants. But North American Bancard just waited another month to apply this increase to the “daily discount” plans.

October Rate Increase

Merchants on a “monthly discount” plan from North American Bancard have a 0.25% rate increase go into effect on October 1, 2024.

North American Bancard is also increasing rates by 0.025% to 0.15% for merchants on an interchange-plus pricing plan, effective 10/1/24.

North American Bancard Increases and Updates For 2023

North American Bancard raised its rates twice in 2023, once in April and a second time in May.

May Rate Increases

Effective May 1, 2023, merchants on a “daily discount” tiered pricing plan will see discount rates increased by up to 0.25% for North American Bancard processing. “Daily discount” merchants on an interchange plus plan will see discount rates increased by up to 0.15%.

April Rate Increases and New Fees

As of April 1, 2023, North American Bancard merchants on a “monthly discount” tiered pricing plan will have discount rates increased by up to 0.25%. “Monthly discount” merchants on an interchange plus plan will see rates increase by up to 0.15% effective 4/1/2023.

Effective April 2023, some North American Bancard merchants will also see increases to the following fees:

  • Card network fees
  • Processor fees
  • Discount rates
  • Interchange
  • Assessments

All Tier 3 merchants will have their monthly PCI non-compliance fee raised to $10. An additional $0.10 will be charged to all non-EMV transactions as well.
